The first time we hear our children cry, its excited it means that their very first breath into this world went smoothly and everything is fine. But after that initial cry it turns scary and not knowing what is wrong or if anything is wrong and they just need to get emotion out. I have been told that between 2-3 moths babies go through a growth spurt which could lead to more fussiness, and this is exactly what little Miss Kailee is going through right now! It seems as if everything I do doesn't satisfy her wants or needs. So, in desperation, I have looked up a few ways to soothe a fussy baby, and I know that I am not the only mom dealing with this issue so I thought I would share them with you guys!
1. Babies love to be rocked and held, now some parents are against always holding their little ones but sometimes this is the only way that can get them settled down.
2. I know that Kailee loves her swing, it has lights, motion, and calming noises, and also vibration. With the right combination of these, it seems to keep her quiet the longest. (This is where she takes her afternoon naps!)
3. Slings or carriers, they still allow for you to move freely and get things accomplished all while your little one still feels snuggled and close to you. We use the Chicco carrier for long days when we are out and about in town. Works wonders!
4. Car rides! this may work for some babies, however, Kailee isnt a big fan of her carseat, shes okay for about an hour, but if she has to stay in it longer than that then its crys and screams until you get her out.
5. Constant noises, When baby was still inside they heard the constant noises of the things you were around. Kailee's favorties are the bathroom fan, running water, and the womb sound which I have an app on my phone, "Sound Sleeper" that works great!
6. Take a walk outside, we get cranky if we are stuck indoors all day, your baby is the same!
7. Try taking their clothes off, babies were born naked, and sometimes the fact of being tangled up in clothes irritates them. I know when Kailee is extremely fussy we strip her down to her diaper.
8. Check the temperature of your home, babies get fussy if they are too hot or cold. Check your babys temp by plaving your lips on their forehead, if they are hot, turn the air on, cold? cover them with a blanket! Kailee is super hot natured so when we put her to bed she has to be naked and then we cover her with a super thin balnket.
9. Dim the lights and turn the tv off, too much stimulation can upset your baby. They arent use to all of these things like we are, so it can be frustrated to them!
10. Some babies really love to soothe suck, if you are breastfeeding just let your baby suck on your breast to comfort them, if your using a bottle, offer a binky or fingers, which ever is your preference. We use WubbaNub for Kailee, a pacifier with a stuffed animal added to the end. It is her best friend, she loves it, she sucks on the paci and snuggles with the stuffed animals. You can get them at Babies R US.
Hope these tricks helped with your babies fussiness!! If you have anymore suggestions that have worked on your baby, please share! Im sure we could all use them!!
Thanks! -Mommy to A Princess
